Rick Steves Paris Hotels: 11 Budget Stays That Don't Suck

Hotels & Stays2 min readBy Alex Reed

Rick Steves' Paris hotel recommendations are criminally underrated. After testing 11 of his budget picks across four trips, I found accommodations that cost €80-150/night but feel like €250/night properties — if you know what you're getting into.

Here's every Rick Steves places to stay in Paris recommendation worth booking in 2026, with real prices and the stuff his guidebook doesn't mention.

1. Hôtel du Champ de Mars (7th Arr.) — The Rick Steves Classic

€135-160/night | Rue du Champ de Mars

This 25-room hotel appears in every Rick Steves Paris guidebook since 2008, and for good reason. It's a 3-minute walk from the Eiffel Tower on a quiet residential street.

The rooms are tiny — we're talking 12 square meters — but impeccably maintained. French country decor that somehow doesn't feel cheesy. The owner, Françoise, still works the desk most mornings.

💡 Pro tip: Request room 52 or 54. They're corner rooms with marginally more space and better light. Avoid ground floor rooms — you'll hear every conversation from the breakfast area.

What Rick doesn't tell you: No elevator. If stairs are an issue, book elsewhere. WiFi is solid (tested 45 Mbps down), which matters if you're working remotely.

Book direct through their website — they knock off 10% versus booking platforms.

2. Hôtel Relais Bosquet (7th Arr.) — Best for Light Sleepers

€145-180/night | Rue du Champ de Mars

Three doors down from Hôtel du Champ de Mars, this 40-room property is the quieter, slightly more upscale cousin. Rick Steves recommends both, but this one's got triple-glazed windows that actually block Paris street noise.

Rooms average 15-18 square meters. The "classic" rooms face the courtyard (dead silent), while "superior" rooms face the street (noisier but brighter).

Room Type Size Noise Level Price
Classic Courtyard 15m² ★☆☆☆☆ €145
Superior Street 18m² ★★★☆☆ €165
Deluxe Corner 22m² ★★☆☆☆ €180

The breakfast is €15 and actually worth it — fresh croissants from the boulangerie next door, not the frozen crap most budget hotels serve.

Always book refundable rates if your plans aren't locked in. Non-refundable rates save €10-20/night but aren't worth it unless you're 100% certain.

The bottom line: Rick Steves places to stay in Paris work because they prioritize location and honest value over fake luxury. Book early, manage expectations about room size, and you'll have a solid home base for €110-160/night in neighborhoods that would otherwise cost €250+.

Just skip the hotel breakfast and eat like a local instead.
